The NSR150
SP uses a very small carburettor and very restrictive
airbox! The only effective way to increase its performance
is by an upgrade to a larger item and fitting a performance
filter. This modification will increase the bike's potential
dramatically, improve its rideability, and provide more
adjustment than available with the stock set-up. |
The setup above is a modified NSR250 (MC18 or MC21) carb, and works perfectly on the 150SP.
Using the NSR250 carb enables the rider to fit HRC parts not available for
the 150 carburettor if required. These parts include a new
emulsion tube for better fuel atomisation and a range of adjustable
needles! The float level can also be altered, something which
is manufacturer pre-set on the 150SP!
The
stock carburettor.
One common problem
with the stock carburettor becomes apparent when an aftermarket
expansion chamber is fitted. The bike often tends to run a
little lean in the mid-range. On the SP models this can often
be cured by raising the adjustable needle by 1 groove. The
same effect can be gained on the RR model by fitting a small
washer under the needle seat to lift it up approx .75mm -
1.0mm.

The above diagram
shows where the small washer seats to lift the needle.
In our experience,
a race expansion chamber and the 32mm carb' conversion completely
transforms an NSR150 SP! The improved 'breathing' allows an
increase of approx' 1500rpm at the top end in all gears, with
up to a 2hp gain throughout the entire rev-range, with no
loss of rideability!
